Walk Behinds and Objects - SOLVED

I've got a table in the middle of a room, and I want a book on it. I couldn't understand why the book wasn't visible, so I removed the walk behind and... hey presto the book appears. But I need the book on top of the table, and it to be a walk-behind at theÃ,  same time. Any ideas?

Much appreciated

Just draw whole room without a book and then draw book as different sprite, import it into AGS and put into room as an object. Objects can have their own walk-baselines too.

Or did you had book as separate object?
Then mess with its baseline. At some height, it should work.

Or if even THAT won't help - replan your room more carefully.

Okay, I haven't used a baseline, which is probably why it doesn't appear. What are object baselines for, and where should it be placed for my book.

Here is the room:

From the AGS editor, load in the room with the object in question.
From the left menu, under "Room Editor", select "Objects".Ã,
Now from the "Room Objects" menu pane, select the object you want to set baseline for, look for the "Set baseline" button, and click. Now clicking on the main preview screen anywhere will set the object's baseline level.Ã,  Lower will set the baseline priority to make it appear more in "front" of other objects or things (such as characters walking by it perhaps). The higher the baseline will set the baseline priority to make it appear more "behind" otherÃ,  objects or things. You may need to play around with the where the object is placed and it's baseline to get the right settings and posistioning for the effect you want. To stop doing baselines for objects in that room, click the "Set baseline" button again.

I've set the object baseline higher up the room than the walk-behind baseline but it doesn't want to show itself. Do I need to lock it in position?

Set it lower. :)

Sorry, maybe my explaination was confusing. When I meant "lower", lower = towards the bottom of your screen. Higher = towards the top of your screen.

I suppose this can be confusing in some aspect, because when you mouse-over the preview screen in the AGS editor, and if you're going by the "Mouse position X, YÃ,  Ã, Object Pos: X, Y" then in fact it may seem to be opposite (that a Lower number = higher up position on the screen, and vice versa).Ã,  Ã, So, before when I mentioned "Lower" and "Higher", I was not referring to the Mouse or Object screen coordinate number posistion, rather I meant as when you visually look at your screen: Lower = downwards, Higher = upwards.Ã,  :PÃ,  Ã,

Also, for your object you want to appear, make sure you have the little box Checked next to "Object is initially visible"... Unless of course you did not want the object to be initially visible, in which case leave it un-checked.

And, whatever you're placing your object on top of, make it's base-line a lower-position on the screen (lower = down) then whatever you place it on top of.Ã,  Well, hope that was of some help.Ã,  ;)

You are all unbelievably helpful - yet another barrier passed! I'll make sure you're in the credits  ;)

Glad to be of some help to you.

Yes, you'll see that the AGS community is one of the most helpful of it's kind you'll find (well, at least in my experience it's one of the most helpful and coolest communities of this type I've found on the net).

If you can't find your answers in the various tutorials, game manual, or by searching the forums, then usually people here are quick and willing to offer what help they can.

Best wishes with your project.

But beware the dreaded "RTFM" response when you fail to search tutorials, manual, and forums for answers to your question first. What does RTFM stand for, you ask?

It's a command to read the manual. Fill in the rest yourself. ;)
