how can I manage that the character first goes to the object , before he picks it up?

The easiest way is to do it with the interaction editor.

Select interact or pickup or whatever you use to the pick up mode:).
Select Character-move character.Place this before he pick it up.There you can place where he walks. Just place true, where is wait for move to finish.
