im on the "getting started with ags part 2" im up to thepoint where you make a back ground but i dont have all the icons that say inport background etc how do you get them?

That's because the manual was unfortunately written for an earlier version of AGS and couldn't be updated yet. You are probably using > 2.7.

Try clicking on the dropdown-menu at the top of the editor (where it say: "File", "Game" etc."), that's where the actions have been moved to.

Good thing you are reading the manual, though - a lot of new people tend to ask first and then read it, which usually annoys other people who want to help.
