Title: Ags games with source for beginners
Post by: jocke the beast on Sat 18/07/2009 16:32:33
Hi. I'm new here (but not totally new as a programmer, have some skills in Basic and Pascal).
I'm looking for games with included source so one could learn. In my opinion it's easier to learn using a existing code then start from scratch.

Thanks for your time.

Ps. Seems like a nice community...happy to be here.

Hopefully it works with the latest version of AGS still.

When you download the latest version of AGS from the site it already includes the demo game.

Thanks a bunch.

I know of the Demo Game included with AGS editor...but I was looking for a more complex game with source.
Thanks again.

I'd be slightly cautious with Demo Quest, it was written for a much older version of the editor, then adapted to work on the later versions so the code in there might not be 'best practice'. Not saying you shouldn't use it, just bear that in mind. Also, when I was starting out with AGS I would have called Demo Quest complex for the amount of interfaces etc it covers.

Open Quest (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=945) is the only other one I can think of, but unfortunately I think the download link is broken. Somebody might have a backup and be able to mirror it for you though, especially if you request it in this thread (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=29796.0).

If you haven't found it already, there's also the tutorial and scripting tutorials in the manual.

Brilliant - I've been looking for some open source AGS games.  I remember seeing OpenQuest run on ScummC.  Now to see how well it runs on XAGE.
