My game's whole the plot and screenplay (dialogues etc.) are written and proofreaded in Finnish (my native language), so I'm also going to create my game's first version in Finnish as well. Just after that I'll make a separate, optional English translation, when I have first saw how whole the game works in Finnish.

Where in AGS I can set the game's initial ("default") language be something else than English? I mean - such a way that I can write and script the game first in Finnish, and just then create a separate translation pack for English?

The AGS manual seems to make assumption that everybody is first creating the game first in English, and just then translating it on other languages. How that works in the other way around?

The language you're using in your scripts is the default language. When you add an English translation, you'll have a default language and an English translation.
By default, the engine doesn't use a translation, so the default for your game will be Finnish (it will appear as "Game Default") in winsetup.

Not sure why you think otherwise? Yes, the manual keeps using English in a misleading way, but that doesn't mean AGS somehow forces you to use the English language when you're writing your in-game text.
