background trouble

i cant import my backgrounds! theyre at teh right resolution and bitmap files, but they don't work, i press the import background button, select the file, and nothing happens.

What is the game colour mode, 256-col, 16bit or 32bit?

What color depth is the bitmap drawn in? Ags doesn't support importing of 16bit bitmaps, make sure it's 24bit bitmap.
