Title: Blackwell Deception: 'The requested adapter mode is not supported'
Post by: LilyLaura18 on Sat 17/09/2011 16:59:42
I just downloaded 'The Blackwell Deception' demo by WadjetEye Games (http://wadjeteyegames.com/blackwell-deception.html) and am really eager to play it for a taste of what to expect, but receive the following error message when I attempt to open/run it:

"There was a problem initializing graphics mode 640 x 480 (32-bit).
(Problem: 'The requested adapter mode is not supported')
Try to correct the problem, or seek help from the AGS homepage.

Possible causes:
* your graphics card drivers do not support this resolution. Run the game setup program and select the other resolution.
* the graphics driver you have selected does not work. Try switching between Direct3D and DirectDraw.
* the graphics filter you have selected does not work. Try another filter."

The above 'causes and solutions' that display when the error message pops up seem simple enough, but I'm afraid I'm not very experienced when it comes to gaming and I have quite an old computer (2005) although it has a lot of new software on it.

How do I:
Run the game setup program (where do I find it)?
Switch between Direct3D and DirectDraw?
Try another graphics filter?

Many thanks for any input you can give,
Laura

P.S.: If you have not, try the Blackwell series. It's quite good.

The game setup program is Winsetup.exe in the game directory.  You should see the options for Direct3D/DirectDraw and graphics filters there.

Hello there!

Thanks. I sorted out the problem about five minutes after posting this, but was so eager to play the demo that I didn't post that all had been sorted here on the forum.

P.S.: To any other beginners, the easiest way to find the winsetup.exe for any game is to search 'winsetup.exe' and select the corresponding one on the results page.
