I've Just downloaded the game from this site. I'm a big fan of the Quest For Glory series, and the first one, is still one of my favorite games.
Now I've just downloaded the Quest For Glory 4 ½. I've unzipped the package, but when I try to run the setup.bat, nothing happens.
I've also tried to run the QFG.exe file this either crashes (on my stationary computer) or comes up with the following message on my laptop:
"There was a problmen initializing graphicsmode 320x200". Problem: Cannot set video mode. Try correcting the problem or seek help from AGS homepage.

On my stationary, when I try to run setup.bat, nothing happens at all. When I run QFG.EXE the screen blinks a couple of times, and then the game crashes.
I've tried to run the game in compatibility mode for windows 95, 98 and 2000. When I try this, it comes with the same error: "There was a problem initializing graphicsmode 320x200" etc.
how can I fix this ??? I would really appreaciate, if I could play this game :)

I hope you guys can help me here.

I found out how to fix the resolution error by following the guide in
"Q60: PROBLEM: SETUP.BAT doesn't work on Win2k/XP"

Now the only problem is, that the game steals 100% of the CPU ressources, and uses 300MB of RAM?!? Jesus christ! :D
I hope this can be fixed somehow, but now the game at least starts up :)

Thanks for the help anyway guys :)

QFG4.5 is a very old game, using a very old version of AGS. As you've noticed, it doens't work too well on modern systems :)

Dualnames

Can you try and emulate via dosbox or something similar? That might solve the problems.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Ravensholt

I couldn't figure out how to run the game via DosBox because it's a windows executable, and not a dos executable.
Anyway...
There might be a solution in the FAQ:
http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/kbview.php?id=5
I haven't tried this yet, but I'll try later when I come home from work :)

I had this problem while testing a game I was making. I don't know if that game you have there has a setup file (since it's very old) but if it has just open it and change the resolution to 640x480.

Ravensholt

I've tried all of the three available resolutions in the setup. The game is quite laggy, and even if I try to disable the music in the setup, it's still there :(

I've tried this on both my stationary and laptop computers :(

I think, that I'll try to download an old version of AGS, and see if I can use the agsdos.exe to run the game.

Anyway, thanks for your help, my fellow adventurers :D
