Un streching 640x400 screen

I have got a 600x400 background, and I want to use a Lucas Arts (MI 1+2) style interface. But I don't want it o cover up my background. Is there a way to unstrech the background?

What about scaling them in a paint type program?
- Oh great, I'm stuck in colonial times, tentacles are taking over the world, and now the toilets backing up.

I guess I could just resize my backgrounds. And I need to redo the Lucas Arts menu, because the one that came with version 2.53 (and 2.54) imports over the GUI's. Now I just need to find a CMI style font.

Well all I can say is stop usingng non square pixel resolutions ._. I'm fed up of seeing streched graphics.  Unless you compensate for it of course.
