DVD Games are crap, because it's the wrong f-ing format.

If you want to make one, you'll be extremely limited. The game-design basically can only consist of a choose-your-own adventure, but you may find yourself limited on space too.

If you really want to continue with such a (IMO stupid) endeavor, check out most any DVD authoring program. Adobe Encore, for example.

To give back to the AGS community, I can get you free, full versions of commercial software. Recently, Paint Shop Pro X, and eXPert PDF Pro 6. Please PM me for details.

Current Project: The Wanderer

You can play through the game, capture that as movie with a suitable app and put it on a DVD. Yay!

Hmmmmmmmmm... remember Dragon's Lair, anyone?

Are you asking if an AGS game can be played from a PC's DVD drive?  If so this is possible with a little cleverness.   The difficulty comes from finding a place to store save game files.

Many moons ago I accomplished this using a simple bat file to launch the game.   If I remember correctly, the procedure was to lookup the path of the currently executing bat file, change the default directory to C:\ or some other writable location, and then use the path of the bat file to launch the game residing on the DVD/CD drive.   I don't know if this method still works or not?

Rick I do believe he was referring to the DVD player. As in on the telly. :P

As far as Dragon's Lair, I own I & II but never played them. Last time I installed it, the computer was too fast for the program and I didn't have time to respond to anything before dying. It was AWESOME. ::)

I also wanted to add my support for the general consensus that DVD player games are nothing but a load of horse manure. The actual question posed was "can you make games" for the DVD player, in which case the answer would technically be yes. A more relevant question to this forum, "Is it possible to design a game with AGS that can be played on a DVD player?" has the opposite answer, namely, no.

if you can make games that can play on a dvd player, i know AGS will not let me do it, but do anyone knows a piece of sofware that will let me do it please?

Gilbert

I think there are programmes to do that but I don't know about it. Also, sorry, questions unrelated to AGS doesn't belong in this forum. :P

Games on DVD players are nothing more than a bunch of video clips with the menus to play them disguised as a game interface. So what you're looking for is a regular DVD authoring tool. DVDStyler seems to be a pretty good and free program fit for the task.

Edit: monkey, I agree that just like FMV games in general, DVD player games tend to be crap. But I heard good things about the DVD version of Tender Loving Care. I only played the Windows version, but it was definitely an interesting and quite unique experience.
