Hi,

I can't find any guidelines for what types of WAV files can be played by AGS. 8/16 bits? 11 kHz and more? I have a couple of files which don't play..

I think all major sampling rates are supported, the only restriction is they must not be compressed.

My suggestion is, use mp3, or better, OGG instead, they're compressed so are smaller in size, and AGS supports them.

P.S. actually this thread fits more in the beginner technical forum.

There's been a few times that I found a good WAV file, and it would not play in AGS.
So, what I did was simply convert it and save it over into a silghtly different format (still WAV file), and then it works fine.Ã,  I used the Windows built-in "sound recorder" utility which as far as I know comes installed with most versions of Windows.

It's usually found from: Start, All Programs, Accessories, Entertainment, Sound Recorder.

From the Sound Recorder utility, load in your WAV file you'd like to convert. Then, from the menu click "File" then select "Save as". From the "Save as" window, look towards the very bottom for a line that reads "Format..." then to the right look for a "Change" button and click that. For the format select "PCM" (though you may get results with the other options, but I found PCM usually works for me), then select the level of attributes, for example, 8bit stereo... When ready, click the "OK" button, then enter the new name of the file, then click the "Save" button.Ã,  If all went okay, you'll have a new WAV sound file but in a slightly different format that should be compatible with AGS now.Ã,  Ã, Anyways, that's what I usually do when I get a stubborn WAV file that refuses to play in AGS.Ã,  ;D

Probably the reason some 'wav' files won't load, is because not all files with the extension '.wav', are actually wav files.  This is the case with many of the compressed files one can download off of the web.  I recommend avoiding most of those, because #1, they tend to be very low in quality, and worse than that,....they have been used repeatedly by everyone and their dog.  I think it is cool that AGS supports .ogg, ( didn't know that until now ) because ogg vorbis is not only quite good, compression/quality-wise, but it is also a 'free' format.
