Hey all...I'd like to think I've been really thorough in trying to figure this out first, but...custom save GUIs are stumping me.  I've got no problem creating new GUIs and tailoring them to my needs, but the Save/Load scripting is what's blocking me...the manual doesn't seem to give specific instructions anywhere, and the threads I could find ask more about specific problems than full explanations.  And with the BFAQ down at the moment, I'm totally lost. :)  Are there any step-by-step tutorials anywhere for scripting a custom Save GUI?  Thanks!

The BFAQ doesn't seem to be down for me (unless it's just come back up again).

There's a couple of threads from earlier this year (this one and this one) that deal with Save/Load GUIs pretty much from scratch - are they any use? I could probably try to extract what's in them into some sort of tutorial, if that'd be better for you.

I know that there were some Save GUI tutorials floating around (although I don't remember if they were updated to the OO scripting), but I can't seem to find them. They might be somewhere in the Wiki.

EDIT: While it might be overkill for what you want, maybe you could download the Savegame Screenshots Module, and pick the code out from there? Or there's some open source games on the Wiki that might have something you can use.
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

Hm, I've made a custom save/load GUI for my MAGS entry (The Last Harvest), but it's pretty lame. It has only nine save slots, but maybe easy to implement. If you're interested, I could give you my code, so that you can take a look on how I made it. If you want to have a GOOD gui, then you should have skipped this post ^^

Ashen:  Thanks...I guess the BFAQ is still up at that AmericanGirlScouts link, I've just been clicking the front AGS page link to bfaq.xylot etc. for a week with it telling me it was down. :)

I'd read through those other posts you pointed me to, and I think my brain can almost grok what the code's supposed to mean.  I'm also looking through SSH's Save w/ Screenshots module script, although that's waaay over my head. :)   I tried just installing his module once already and in my awkward newbielesence I crashed it, fortunately it was just a test game designed specifically to receive abuse like that.  ;D  I'm also examining one or two of the open source games from the Wiki, thanks for that link.

I think I'm slowly unraveling those threads, let me try some stuff and get back to you here, because I'm pretty sure I'm going to get lost. :)  If you did want to make a short tutorial, I'm sure I and generations of newbies would be ever so grateful.  ;D  Thanks again for your help, I'll be back soon!

nihilyst:  Sure, I'd really appreciate it...even if you think it's lame, if it gives me a better understanding of what I'm supposed to be doing, I'm all for it. :)
