You have set your sights on making a huge web-based MMORPG/adventure game/"cross-assault time battle"..and you do not have any concept of how to accomplish said task. Making a non-adventure game in AGS is not a trivial task. It requires a good grasp on both use of AGS as well as the AGS scripting language. You have neither of these things, so every time you need to add a new line of code you have to post again and ask how to shot web.

Your goals are completely unrealistic for someone who doesn't understand what they're doing or why they're doing it.

Icy,

First: why not indeed set your sights on making a game that is based on a lower level of difficulty?
Like a training game, just to get a grip on AGS & it's scripting. Almost everyone starts like that.

Like me, I'm working on a puzzle game which was en sometimes is still difficult enough for me.
I also sometimes have to ask stupid n00b questions [stupid n00b as seen through professional AGS-ers eyes] here after reading the manual plus a good forum search.

But at the end I always manage to adapt [slightly alter and use] the given solution to my game [which may take some trial and error] and therefor I do learn something each time.

I guess when you work that way it would work for you too  ;)

Icey

Hum, I guess. But I have to wait a bit to start something simple.

I think I will make my next game simple without the RPG/online in it.

Matti

PATIENCE is the magic word, both when it comes to making a COMPLETE, BUG-FREE and POLISHED game and when going through the manual and searching for an answer yourself.

Sit back, relax, think about what you can accomplish in a reasonable amount of time and then start your thing. Don't rush it. Don't expect making an outstanding game within some weeks without even having a stable, profund scripting knowledge.

I've been a bit precipitous in the past too, starting quite big projects myself, only to realize that they do require a lot of time and work. I have started like 10 (mostly non-AGS-) games in the past and eventually cancelled all of them. But I didn't constantly bother people with it. Now I know what it takes and have the patience to go all the way through and finish something substantial. Having said that, at some point I really should have done a small game to start with  ;)

Icey

Ok. So I guess I should take things slow next time around. :)

Yes, that's the point behind what everyone is saying. Continue mindlessly bludgeoning your way forward with this ridiculously large venture which you have no idea how you're going to accomplish without the generous folks here at these forums programming the vast majority of it for you, and then after your game is a huge success, which it obviously must be with the attention to detail that everyone but you is putting into it, when you decide to begin designing your next game project, then you should start taking things slowly and patiently trying to learn what you are doing with AGS and in your game development endeavours.

Yes, that is what we all meant.

By the way, in case you missed it, I was being entirely sarcastic in suggesting that you were correct in your interpretation of what has been said here. The fact of the matter is that either you were mocking us, or you've missed the point entirely. Neither really works in your favor, but hey, it's "your" game, right?

Icey

I was not mocking you guys at all I was going to start small before all of this but I got side tracked by a bigger idea after playing fable 3.  :P

monkey0506

I must have missed the patch that turned Fable 3 into an CATB.

Icey

What I meant was that the game was so good that it inspired me to try my hands back at another PMQ game.

*ps:
Ive said it before and Ill say it again: Khris, you really need to get a "donate" button on your signature. Just do it, dammit.

I whole heartedly second this motion. Khris has saved me from many a jam and been incredibly patient with us "newbies".
Wrongthinker and anticitizen one. Utterly untrustworthy. Pending removal to memory hole.

No way guys; I'm enjoying all these cool games for free, so it's just my part to give back to the community.
Also note that it's usually quite fun for me to solve a coding problem.

I can relate, when I can sometimes solve a complicated problem (for me) on my own without the help of someone, I feel pretty proud of myself and even shout "yes, it works!" out loud, hehe... ;D
