Title: Ego Dialog Problem. Bug?
Post by: subspark on Fri 21/04/2006 15:53:52
I've scripted cEgo to say "<Sigh!> It's so peacefull here."

Whenever this runs in-game the <Sigh!> is turned into éSigh!>
I've looked through the manual and browsed through and searched the forums but there is no explination as to why <S seems to be read as an acute accent 'e'.

It's exactly the way classic LucasArts Adventure games used to indicate a non present sound or action. Always between a <>.
For example: <THUD!>

What speech font are you using?

Since there is a limited amount of characters in an SCI font (no accented characters, for example), the creator of the font probably replaced little-used special characters in the font with accented ones.
So if you wanted to have the character display saying "Café", you would have to script it as "Caf<".

I'm afraid there's no other solution than to avoid using these characters or use another font.
You also can import TrueType fonts, they support more characters, including accented ones.

They probably edited the font from one that had both and replaced the < with an é.

Did you use the Lucasarts GUI templates, btw, as these have such modified fonts in them, cause their author is Spanish, I believe.

btw, my Digraphs module can be used to turn e' or e/ into < in the case that you do want to use such a font. In the meantime, you may find the fonts on the ags resources page handy, or use Radiant's Font editor to modify SCI fonts yourself.
