Title: Extracting Sprites from an .exe
Post by: charliechuck on Mon 10/04/2006 10:35:35
I used AGS a few years ago and made a demo game, but the source code and Graphics files got deleted when my computer crashed, only the finished .exe file remains which was on my website. I'm making a new version of the game and would like to know if there's any way of extracting the sprites and maybe rooms from the old .exe game ? any help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately there's no such possibility. Otherwise everybody could simply rip game files from games that other people did! What you *could* do though is execute your game take screenshots (either by pressing the AGS-default F12 if you left that function in your game or with the PRINT-button on your keyboard) and then you'd have your graphics.

Thanks fior quick reply, I didn't think of screenshots, that should help massively. :)

You could also write CJ a personal message (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=1), convice him you're really the game's author and ask him to try and extract the graphics. I think he was able to do this on earlier versions of AGS.
