Title: good quality pictures I made are ruined SOLVED
Post by: gypsysnail on Sun 22/10/2006 13:30:37
Hello I know this might be a silly question but I am desperate for the help. I created a really good high resolution pictiure of a close up view for talking view of my character and in ags it looks awful and downgraded! How do I fix this please so the original state is preserved in the game?

EDIT: sorry forgot to mention that I had the game set to 800 x 600 then put it down to 640 x 480 but still did not work. I am frustrated with this as I hate my art work getting ruined by some resolution problems

Try setting the colour depth to 32 bit and then re-import the image.

Ok thanks. I was using photoshop and when I imported the graphic to the sprite manager and used it in the game, parts of the background was transparent when really I had made it very very solid. I am not sure how I can set it to 32 bit in photoshop - if you know, that would be great. Thanks

You imported the sprite with a transparency setting of "top left pixel" or something. So whatever colour is there, all pixels of that colour will appear transparent.

Try setting it to "Palette index 0".

Also, why are you importing to the sprite manager if it's a background?

Edited (twice) because I'm a (massive) fool

What I meant was setting the colour depth to 32 bit inside your AGS editor. In the top bar, click >Game and then >Change game colour depth. There set it to 32 bit and re-import the sprite. Then, when importing a new sprite, change the >Transparent colour to "palette index 0". That might solve the transparency problem, too.

ah thank you both of you. No Theeph, it is not a background, it is a character on a special background just for the talking view under the chosen style - Sierra style for whenever the character talks, the talk view box comes up and she is in front of a small background. I know the background for each room is differently done. Thanks for the help, I am going to try it now, here's hoping it works :)
