Title: Greetings, advice wanted from a n00b
Post by: Morphindel on Sun 09/09/2007 13:32:58
Hi guys. I've just recently started using this program. I've been a fan of adventure games since iwas 5 and first played Monkey Island, and now 17 years later i thought i'd give it a try.

At the moment i have been using the programs tutorial to make a short puzzle (as a warm up excercise) to see if i have the knack for it. Anyways so far i have been getting on pretty well. I've made a room, and a character. I have my own sprites, and i know how to set hotspots and other basic interaction properties.

The problem is the tutorial is kind of limited, and i dont have any previous experience of scripting, so jumping from the tutorial to the advanced GUI section of the manual is extremely daunting. Does Anyone have any online tutorials on how to make a Scumm style interface (Walk To, Look At etc), or at least have a template i can import to save me a bit of legwork? (or handwork ;)

Any help for the n00b is appreciated.

Thanks :)

The LucasArts GUI Help thread (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=24112.0) stickied at the top of this forum has a link to a template, and would be the place to post questions about getting it working (it wasn't made for the newest version of AGS, so you might have some problems). The READ *BEFORE* POSTING thread (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=14373.0) has links to a lot of resources including Tutorials (not many, and possibly out of date...), GUIs, Templates, etc, that might be some use. If Proskritos' GUI (from the Help thread) is no good, the 'Standard SCUMM GUI' available on AGS Resources (http://www.americangirlscouts.org/agsresources/Templates.html) looks about right.
