Hi guys :)

I just recently downloaded AGS, and whilst I think I am getting the hang of making rooms and the like, I just can't import characters at all! I don't have any great paint packages - just the default, run of the mill, crappy MS Paint that comes built into every Windows package these days. Does anyone know how to use this to create a character and import it successfully so that the game will work instead of crashing? I know absolutely nothing about technical jargon, so please post help in idiot-speak!

Thanks in advance!

There has to be someone in this large community...  :=

No, seriously, please read the FAQ and/or sticky thread here and you'll get help!

If it's an actual crash, rather than just not being able to get it to work, we need more information - e.g. what you've already tried, what you were doing when it crashed (was it when you tried to import a sprite, when you tested the game, etc), and what error message (if any) you got.

Thank you Ash-n Ã, - Ã, as for everyone else who seemed to not notice the "crash" part that I had included in my post, I would appreciate it if you would perhaps word things in a more friendly manner next time. I read all the FAQS but couldn't get any help from them.

Thanks, but no further help needed. Eventually found a way to get around the crashing (which produced no error message, just a frozen screen). In case anyone else has the same problem, I sorted it like this - instead of using the "Import from file" button on the sprite manager, I used "Import from clipboard" (only becomes available if you've set your pallete to "hi-colour"). I just highlighted the area of the character I needed in MS Paint using the box option and hit copy. When I imported the images from the clipboard the program ran absolutely fine - at last!

Well you didn't tell us that part of the story, so there's no way we could've helped you before Ashen asked you about details on your problem (I mean, we won't search through your post to find your problem. Next time just describe in your first post and everybody - including me - will seriously try to help you ).

What you said before was:

I didn't mean to sound unfriendly or anything and I still don't mean to - I just wanted to help by pointing you to the FAQs and sticky thread.

Scummbuddy

if you read all the sticky threads, you would know that "crashes and errors" dont belong in the beginners thread.

and posting the ways you went to get the crash would be helpful, so that the creator could go about trying to resolve the crash so no one else gets that problem.

and also, there is absolutely nothing wrong with MS Paint. I have seen some of the most beautiful art from MS Paint. (its only missing layers). The art program does not make the artist.  Just because you have some huge expensive program, wont make you an artist overnight. Also, we have a sticky thread over in the critics lounge of all posts relating to all kinds of paint programs to use.

- No, I mean it's really STUCK. Like adventure-game stuck.

Read the rules, you'll find info in the manual and BFAQ about importing stuff.
