Help me!!! ..load new sprites without a background.

I'm not sure how to get rid of this background on all of the new sprites I try to load. I've used photoshop to put the images on a transparent background, but when I load them into AGS, there's still a white background.

Does anyone know what the problem is, and what I can do to fix this?

when you are loading a sprite, select from the drop down menu, use upper left corner for transparent color, or whatever corner pixel has the white, and whereever there is white in the image, will be transparent.   I usually will open the image in paint, and make the background some color that isn't being used in the character, as white can be used in characters eyes and such, so I'll pick some bright green or purple, or whatever I'm not using.
