Hi all,
I really apologize if this is common knowledge or on a faq somewhere. I have searched a good bit and found no answer so here we are:
I made a test room in the newest AGS, set it to 640x400. I drew up a quick crappy BG at 640x400, 300 dpi. It seems to only display in letterbox. I'm running windows 7, and other AGS games seem to display fine on my widescreen LCD.
I can't figure this out, but I would love to so I can start making some backgrounds, and make my game.
Thanks for any help you provide.
I have the same issue but with 320x200 using AGS 3.2.1. I use Vista.
Are other games you mentioned using AGS 3.2.1 engine as well?
I am unsure of which version they are made from. I've tried Spacemen in space, Lost prince of Lorderan, and Plan M.
In the game, press CTRL+V to show the version of AGS.
Try running the winsetup.exe of both your game and the games which run correctly. There might be differences in the configuration?
Excellent idea! But I still see no differences. And no options that help me.
I wonder what the hell I am doing wrong?
Thanks for all the help so far.
Have you tried using a square aspect ratio resolution*, like 640x480?
___
* Might not be a real word, but you know what I mean :)
That makes it look normal. So I mean, I think I have a fix, but I am still wondering what my deal is.
I tried 320x200 and it did the same letterboxing. This is kind of weird.
There's a tickbox in winsetup.exe called 'Force alternate letterbox resolution'. Try that?
Yeah, when I try that I see no change than when the box is ticked or not.
Did you try the x2 filter?
Also, what error message do you get?
You said it didn't display, what happens exactly?
Just tried the X2 filter, and it makes it appear correctly.
I don't receive any error messages, its just that when I run my games they appear letterboxed at all times. Unless I go 640x480 or use that X2 filter.
Which seems weird, I'd love to figure out whats up, I don't really favor the idea of an entire game running on a makeshift solution :)
Thanks for all the help so far.
800x600 seems to look just fine. I'm starting to wonder if this is just an issue with my video card or monitor. But the fact that other AGS games play fine has me confused.
I'm okay with doing 800x600 though, as opposed to the x2 filter, which seems to bump the image up into a larger size anyway.
Lost prince of Lorderan uses AGS 2.272 with 640x480 resolution. That explains why this game runs fine on your computer without letterbox.
I'm going to swith my upcoming game to 320x240.
Now I need to resize all my guis and backgrounds.
Edited: Wait. I just select No to resize guis when changing the resolution.
