Hi all here, I am having some problems with the refreshing.
I have got a Windows 7 Home 64bit OS with an ATI Radeon (Standard and even a Mobile card on two different computers) and I was playing nicely a game made by an italian man, using AGS. The game is "Indiana Jones and the gold of Gengis Khan".
Now I have started creating my own game but I am in trouble because I cannot see the movements neither the mouse icon in the black screen (only the main character is visible, but it does not move) which should be the testing window of the game itself.
The problem seems to be solved if I move the black window overlapping the Windows Taskbar, but there remains another frustrating problem with the textboxes. They do not appear until I move the window down the screen (I mean forcing the redrawing hiding to and then restoring from the bottom edge of the Windows desktop) and then up again. This is true also for other games, i.e. "The Oracle 11" (downloaded from your archive), which is really not playable for me due to the problem described.
I assure you I used the search forum function, but maybe I do not understand very well (neither explain myself in) english, due to the fact I'm italian... but I am very sad for this problem. :(
Is there a way I can solve it?
Many thanks to all of you. :)

I'm not sure what exactly your problem is, the main character does not move in the editor, you need to compile & run the game to test it, and you need to add a walking area to the background... but do you really want to use a black background`

Maybe if you can provide a screen grab and show us exactly what your problem is, might be a good idea, no? :)

Or someone better at guessing than me, can figure out what the problem is and how to solve it.

PS - You can't edit the game while running it at same time, either.

Ciao Cassiebsg, thanks for your reply.
What I Exactly mean is that even if the background of the scene is black or it is pictured, the whole scene remains freezed until I move the window. Maybe it forces the refreshing in Windows (this is my suppose).
To have the scene normally refreshed, it has to be moved unless its bottom edge is overdrawn on the Windows Taskbar (same thing as above, I suppose this forces the refreshing of the windows in the OS).
Instead of this, the text boxes are not shown until I move the entire scene window down disappearing from the visibility (I mean it remains only the application upper bar, the one with the three windows buttons "_[]X"). Moving it back on the desktop, the text is now visible.
One of the games I have tested is the "default game".
For this reason, I could attach some screenshots, but it should be better if a'd attach some videos.
Hope I have explained better, this time.
Thank you again.

A video would be nice, but it's starting to sound like it's your windows version that is behaving weird.

BTW, what version of AGS are you using? That might help our "experts" to figure out what is going on.

And now, re-reading your edit... Do you mean the problem is with the editor or when testing/running the game? Or both?

Thanks again. Sure I'm sorry to bother.
I have found something that depends on my PC configuration.
The one with the Radeon non Mobility is now running well. The solution is this: sfc /scannow :-D
Instead of this, the notebook still has the problem. Even re-installing the Graphic card drivers, scanning for some corrupted system files (see above) and updating the video drivers. This is equipped with a Radeon HD7450 Mobility. I think this is the problem.
As test I have tried the games above (TheOracle11 and the default game) and on the desktop PC they are running well. The other PC still cannot be used with AGS.
Ok, now I have to find a working configuration with my laptop. I mean AGS compatible.
Thank you again for your effort.
