I need help programming the variabels on the GUI and help with turn based fights!! Please can you help with either of these ???

Sorry the game is a lord of the rings game for my fan site

Oh, so you basically want to do an RPG...

Check out this tutorial from the AGS wiki: http://americangirlscouts.org/agswiki/Making_an_RPG_with_AGS, or, more to the point: http://americangirlscouts.org/agswiki/Making_an_RPG_with_AGS#Turn_Based_Fights:_Weapons.2C_Magics.2C_Enemies.2C_and_Enemy_A.I.

It's a bit outdated, but you should be able to convert the information there to the new version of AGS, it shouldn't be too hard.

Thanks alot ;D

Sorry i have no programming experience and have tried thesed sites before if you could tell me in a simplfied versoin it would be much appritiated ???

I've tried the sites and put in the codes but my AGS says it can't run it as all the things i input are uexpected

Khris

I'd start with basic things and the tutorial in the ags helpfile.

Without any programming experience it's not really possible to pull this off, so you've got to be prepared to learn the scripting language. There's no easy way.

Billy, I suggest you first start working on a simple adventure game, then another, a bit more amibitious. Get used to AGS before you start coding RPGs with it.

Besides, have you even read the manual?

And as a sidenote, don't double, or triple-post, there's an edit button...

EDIT: Darn it, Khris... ;)

You need to read the stickys first, then search for RPGs on here. I coded one myself, and it isn't too hard.

Where did you put the commands? 'Unexpected X' errors usually mean you've put code outside of functions, where it can't be run - see the BFAQ for more details. Then, go back and re-read the tutorial and follow it exactly - it's a little unclear at first glance but it DOES tell you the proper places for all the code.
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.

I dont know where the manual is ???

Then you obviously haven't read the 'Read before posting' thread at he top of the forum:

First and foremost, if you're not sure of anything in AGS, then
READ THE MANUAL!
Take a look at the manual. That's what it's there for. It even has a Search feature, for crying out loud. It's the "AGS-HELP.CHM" help file ("AGS.CHM" before V2.7) that comes with AGS. Either press F1 in AGS itself, or double-click on the AGS-HELP.CHM file in the AGS main directory. (Available on-line Right Here)
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.
