I'm currently going through the steps of learning how and I reached the hotspot section. When I went to draw it a message appeared saying, "You are currently using the eraser. To draw new areas, change the selection in the list above the properties pane." I looked and it has no draw or erase, only description, design, and walk to point. Am I just looking in the wrong area or has the area for it changed? Please help.

Please tell me how to switch between erasing objects and drawing new ones please.

Notice the kind people below helped me, I thank them and require no further assistance.

You are currently using hotspot zero, you need to choose ID 1 or more in the hotspot sub menu on the right. First...click on (show this rooms) and choose hotspots. When you want to make a new hotspot click on the center bar on the right that divides the two menus. You can now choose a number. Obviously you should count upwards as your making hotspots. Start with one and go up as you make new hotspots, make sure not to make all the hotspots under one number, each hotspot should corrospond to a different number.

if you need video help, go to densmings videos on youtube...just type in (How to use AGS part 1)....you will see a bunch of videos made by him. One or two of them is all about hotspots   ;)

Oh...also, I'm not exactly sure what the eraser (0) is for, I never used it myself. Someone else may be able to help you with that.

Hope this is helpful.

The eraser is Hotspot 0.

To use it, select hotspot 0 from the dropdown on the right pane.

Then draw freehand, use the line tool or paint.  It will draw a line, but will erase any hotspot underneath where the line goes.  If you use the fill bucket tool, it will fill an entire hotspot area with the hotspot 0, erasing it.

Hotspot ID 0 is used to delete Hotspots. It's an eraser as mentioned.

If you decide that you don't want a hotspot where it is and want it gone then you erase it with Hotspot ID 0.

The Hotspot ID's are in the events pane on the lower right of window. (You need to select Hotspots from top select option).

Use Hotspot ID 1,2,3,4 etc etc to draw Hotspots.

Hope this helps.

Hey, the eraser is Hotspot 0.  Just saying.
Space Quest: Vohaul Strikes Back is now available to download!

Wait , I am confused...  What is the eraser?  Which one is the pencil?

All of Hotspot 0's drawing tools are eraser type: Line, Freehand, Rectangle. Fill...

There is not a pencil but there is a Line Tool (similar).

I was kidding in my post.  :)

It needs a spraypaint tool!

Hotspot 0 isn't an eraser you n00bs. Hotspot 0 is a perfectly valid hotspot, it just doesn't automatically trigger some events. If you have an "Interact with hotspot" event linked (hHotspot0_Interact), for example, it will still be fired if the user interacts with hotspot 0. Hotspot 0 is just ignored by things like @OVERHOTSPOT@, Game.GetLocationName, GetLocationType, and unhandled_event (even though unhandled_event has a "what" value specifically for "nothing"...??).

P.S. Unless you're using every single other hotspot in the room, there's no technical reason why you would want or need to use hotspot 0 instead of another hotspot. Just pointing out that there's not a single pixel in any AGS room that isn't covered by a valid hotspot...you know, just to confuse people. :=
