Resolution probelms, scaling problems, and error messages...

I set the resolution for my game at 320x240.  I also converted it to 16-bit color, so I could upload high color backgrounds and be able to use them.  The only problem I'm having is:
- I drew the background in 320x240
- When I upload the background, it comes up as 640x480.

I also imported a character I was using for another game, just to test it out... the character I uploaded appears too small when I test the game.  Same thing with Roger.  I realize I can only upscale the character to 200%, but it's still not big enough.

Anyone know what I can do?  Did I do something wrong?

EDIT:
I think I know what I did wrong... I drew one of those "panoramic" backgrounds (so that it kinda scrolls as you walk)... so the background is drawn for 320x240 resolution, but the background itself is drawn at 640x240 pixels.

So... any suggestions as to what I can do to keep my background, withouth having to redraw everything?

RE-EDIT:
This is the image I'm using for the background.

...as you can see it is 640x240 pixels.  I tried drawing the character sprites double size, and they came out the right size when I tested the game, but blocky.  I guess I can do a little tweaking in the drawing of the character sprites.  But I'd still like to get some feedback on how to get around my original problem.

If you re-set the game resolution to 320x240..? Or shotened the background with a few pixels, so it wouldn't be 640 anymore. I remember reading something about this somewhere, but I don't remember where.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

I just checked it with AGS v2.6 - seems fine to me. When you say
Quote- When I upload the background, it comes up as 640x480.
does it mean the room appears to fit the screen instead of be the scrolling one?

Btw, Roger is originally designed for 320x200 resolution, so yes, it will look squeezed at 320x240. Maybe that's the problem?

I'm using the previous version of ags... v 2.56  I'm going to download the latest version and see if that clears up the problem.

Ok, I downloaded AGS v.2.6.  My resolution problem didn't change, the background is the same, and the characters are still not the right size.  I don't know... I guess I'm not going to worry about this anymore.

But I've got some new problems now...
1.  The scaling in the background editor doesn't work anymore (I set the scaling for the character at 200%, but when I test the game, the character is still the same size).

2.  I have a region over towards the edge of the screen.  When the character walks onto the region, I have a message come up saying "I just came from this way.  There's no reason for me to go back that way.".  Then,  I use MoveCharacter to make him walk off the region to a specified co-ordinate.  This all worked fine with ags 2.56... now that I have 2.6, The message comes up, but then I get an error message saying
"Error: MoveCharacterBlocking: invalid character"
The error message tells me to contact CJ, and that the problem is with the game, and not the interpreter...

Just more problems for you to solve for me...  ;D

Can you provide a screenshot from the game with Roger infront? :P

Any chance that character has ignore room area scaling option turned on?

hmm, strange... How do you move him off, via the script or interaction editor action?

I think it's time to move the thread to the technical forum?! :P

1. I erased roger...  I'm really not going to worry about it anymore... If I can just get the scaling to work, then it'll be fine.

2.No, the "ignore room area scaling" isn't on.  I'm positive, I double-checked it.

I solved my second problem.  I don't know how... it just decided to start working.  So I'm sorry for posting it.

Yeah, I suppose this could be moved to the Technical forum... but I guess I'll leave that up to the moderator.

Edit:  Holy crap... the scaling finally decided to start working... so I guess I don't need anyone to help me with that problem either....  hmm... looks like all my problems have been solved.

Thank's for all your help, ladies and gentlemen!
