Title: How to turn UI auto button shifting? (SOLVED)
Post by: Pinback on Tue 03/05/2011 12:20:23
Okay so I'm loving a lot of the new editor features, bar one.

Now when I move buttons about the UI, these yellow lines appear and it like, automatically shifts my placement depending on where I put other buttons.

If anyone knows a way to turn this 'auto shift' function off altogether I'd really appreciate it, the feature is basically driving me nuts everytime I mess with UI's. Which is a lot.

Thanks:D

There doesn't seem to be a global option, but holding Ctrl down during dragging seems to do the trick.

This feature is called "snap" (in this case it snaps to align edges of controls), and the concept of holding down Ctrl to disable it also applies for instance to Photoshop. Yeah, it's the kind of thing that drives you crazy when you don't know how to stop it from happening.

(This post mainly to help people who may be searching for the same question later.)

Yeah, I just realized using ctrl to negate snap works  in photoshop too, which has also been grating on me for god knows how long. Double thanks Khris!
