Is there a way to decompile/disassemble old AGS games (at least those in DOS) and then re-compile them into something suitable for Windows?

I know it's hard work porting those oldies-but-goodies stuff, but still, I'd rather ask more experienced AGS users. I didn't find it through searching the forums, so I thought nobody had asked it before.

Thanks!

You can run games made with AGS v2.5 or later with the newest (Windows) version of AGS (HOWTO).

Games compiled with earlier versions of AGS need the Windows engine (acwin.exe) of the AGS version they were compiled with (or at least a version prior to AGS v2.5? Not sure about this one). A list of older AGS versions is here.

Strazer, how about for games such as "Permanent Daylight" or some of the older Reality on the Norm games? They're already in .EXE format.

The games are already bundled with the DOS engine. What I was hoping to do was build a Windows version instead, or at least play the game in a window instead of full-screen.

Have you read the HOWTO?
You can run games compiled for DOS with the appropriate Windows engine.

AFAIK the only difference between games compiled for DOS and games compiled for Windows is the engine (ACDOS.EXE or ACWIN.EXE) that gets bundled into the game exe. So the exe contains the game and the engine and if you want, you can use another engine to run the game.

Wooopss!

Sorry, I forgot the part about renaming the .EXE file. I shouldn't have bothered to ask again.

Thanks again.
