Here is the Dummy GUI setting:

Here is what I want the Adventure Game Text Box to look like:

Without actually doing it for me, could someone please show me the step-by-step process for designing and setting up the Text Box GUI so the text fits in the box, and the box remains the same size and shape? Please?

Thanks so much for your help!

Khris

Afaik, the size of a text box GUI will always adapt to its contents, so you might want to look into other ways of doing what you want.

 :o Oh!

Hm. But would there be a way to, like, say, if you had a shorter sentence, to have the background and border stay consistant? So it doesn't look cut off?

What you mean is Customized Text Windows.

You'll have to make separate images of the four corners and the four sides. You don't have to use the full side, only a small piece of it which has equal sides. Look in the manual, it can explain it better than I can.

:) Thank You for that. However, I have looked in the manual, and have tinkered with it a bit in the past. But I was experiencing some frustration, being the slow learner that I am.

What I would like to know, if it's not too much to ask, if someone could please show me graphically what the colour border pieces should look like exactly (shape for shape, size for size) as visual examples, or at least show a visual example of what I need to do. Hmmm... that gives me an idea...

Please don't save in jpg, but in png. Jpeg makes pixelart really messy.

When you make a new text window, there are eight images: four in the corners and one on every side.
In the image above, I've outlined in white the pieces you need.

1. Make each corner a separate image and make it as small as possible. (by as small as possible I mean it should be as wide as the side bar and as high as the top/bottom bar)

2. The sides will be a bit more work:
With the left and right you need to make sure they are the same width as the corners
The top and bottom need to be the same height as the corners.
You have a repeating pattern on the sides. Take one piece of that pattern (and make sure when you put a few of those pieces next to each other they are seamless).

3. Save all eight pieces as a separate image and import into AGS. Assign each image to the right button on the GUI. Don't position them, AGS will do this automatically.

What will happen is that AGS will figure out the width and height of the box and the sides (left, right, top, bottom) will be as long as needed, using the pics you made as tiles.

Hope it's clear now. It took me some time to figure this out too.

WackyWildCard

:) Thank You very much, TwinMoon for taking the time to figure that out for me!  :)

I really appreciate that! This information will greatly improve the quality of the game that I'm designing!

Thanks again...and have fun!
