i was trying to make a platform fighting game like mortal kombat,street fighter etc... but i was reading the ags news and it said you cant make platforms on ags is this true ?

Yeah, but it's very difficult, look at other game making engines if this is your goal.

Game maker (http://www.gamemaker.nl/) comes to mind.
