hi there!

call me stupid, call me blind - i searched one hour for the up-to-date ags-manual and didn't find it. all i could find was the obsolete 2.4-manual and one in portugues  :-
finally, curiosity and despair drove me to type http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/manual manually into my browser, ... yeeehaw, there it was!

maybe it would be nice if the online-manual would be easier to locate.

btw: it took also some time to discover that the file "ags.chm" is really a help-file and no program-data as i suspected, since i run linux/wine (and ".chm"-files aren't included in most mime-configs by default), so there was no clue. maybe renaming it to "ags-help.chm" or something like that would help...

nice day to everyone

(ps: i don't know if this is the correct place for this thread, but the section-name suggests that annoying n00b-questions/-recommendations will be more likely tolerated in here  ;D )

I run Linux/WINE too, I use xCHM to access the help file.

The online manual is not official yet, it has been added recently and I'm sure CJ will add the link to the main page once AGS v2.7 is released.

is this manual different than one that comes with AGS ?

strazer

It will eventually have the ability for users to post comments, other than that it's the same.

Pumaman

Yes, the online manual is the manual that accompanies AGS 2.7 Beta, and as such is not officially linked yet because it would be confusing to try and use it with 2.62.

I was going to start a new topic for this, but since there's already one here...

*Blows dust*

Now that v2.72 is the latest version, shouldn't there be a link on the AGS Resources page to the manual? It's really hard to find if you don't already know the address.

Khris

Don't get me wrong, but I think it's purposely "hidden" in the READ FIRST *BEFORE* POSTING thread right in this forum...

So if people ask about a link to the online manual, it's obvious they didn't read that thread  :=

In fact, there are TWO links to the manual in the "Read Before Posting" thread. It's not actually an initiative test, much as I like the idea, but it really shouldn't be that hard to find the link if you need it. And since the on-line manual is only the manual that comes with AGS anyway, it's not even that vital - just handy for pointing people in the right direction.

Although since people don't seem to be reading that thread, adding a link to the resources page couldn't hurt - except to increase the sense of exasperation I feel when people obviously haven't read the manual. (And the satisfaction in locking their threads.)

And, since threads about the site don't belong in BTQ ...
I know what you're thinking ... Don't think that.
