Hi people,

Is there some method of defining your own icon for the .exe file? (I can't seem to find it anywhere, and I recall Kings Quest 1 Remake using it, so I must be blind).

Regards,
Martin.

I believe it says it in the help file... I'll just check though.

edit:: Next time just check the help file...

Custom icon
If you wish, you can use your own custom icon when you build a Windows EXE file. To do this, simply place your icon in your game's folder, and name it USER.ICO. Then, load the editor, make sure it is set to generate a Windows executable, and save the game.
Your icon must be standard 32x32 pixels in 16-colour. If it is any other size or colour depth, the editor will give an error.

NOTE: The icon must be a proper Windows .ICO file, not just a renamed BMP file. Icon editors, such as AX-Icons from http://www.axialis.com, will convert it for you.

You can also have a custom icon for the Setup program generated. To do so, create your icon as above but name it setup.ico in the game folder.

I haven't checked if it supports 48x48 (even though it doesn't say so), but that would be a request for a feature I'd like to vote for if it doesn't :)

Thank you very much Os àšltimo Quão Queijo ^_^

How do you pronounce that? T.T;Y

I would assume that part of the entry means that nothing ELSE is supported. :)
Status: Trying to come up with some ideas...

u can put a icon with 256 colours, but need to hack the exe, or something. Anyone recalls?
Yeah, yeah, It happens. A lot.

Gilbert

Yes, I think CJ mentioned about Resource Hacker, but warning, hacking into the executable files is never recommended!

I don't care anyway, I'm using WIN95 and it's displaying all icons as 16 colours.

in the days when i was using rpgmaker2000 i used to use a file hack to change those game icons  ;D

Sinister

I understand this question has been asked and answered numerous times on the forums as well as being mentioned in the manual, but for some reason I am still having difficulty with it.Ã,  Maybe I'm not putting my icon in the right folder.Ã,  I've tried putting it in the Compiled folder, but that didn't work.Ã,  So I did one folder up, which I think is the game folder (sorry, I'm very new at this), but that didn't work, either.Ã,  I renamed the icon user.ico, then opened up my game, made sure it was set to produce windows exe, then saved it.Ã,  The icon has not changed.Ã,  My icon is 32x32, but I'm not sure how to tell if it is 16 color.Ã,  Does this give you enough information to tell you what I am doing wrong?Ã,  I apologize for repeating this question, but thanks for taking the time to read it.

putting .ico at the end of the filename doesn't actually make it an ico file. You have to get a program to convert it.

I wondered if that could be the problem, but I'm pretty sure this is an actual icon I'm using.  I downloaded it in a pack of icons.  Maybe I should try using another icon from my computer, like the recycle bin, to see if that works.  I'll let you know what I find out.

Davimee

I just tried using another 32x32 icon from my computer and it still did not work.  I'm sure this is a simple solution that I'm just not seeing.  Oh well.  If you have any other suggestions as to what I'm not doing right, please let me know.  Thanks!

I just made a icon with 32x32  16 colors and it worked fine . you have to watch as some icons have  more then one icon in them so they show  up in 256 ,16 etc . you may have one of those .
Make your own and it will work .
Here are some free ones to use .

You'll need to place the "user.ico" file in the main game folder, where you have the ac2game.dat, sprset.spr etc. files. Atleast in the past, the icon either compiled properly into the exe, or AGS gave a error telling that the icon format is invalid. If nothing happens, AGS does not find your icon from some reason.

Does your system show file extensions? If not, and you name the file to "user.ico", it will actually become "user.ico.ico", which again will not work. Check that too.
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

Aha!Ã,  That was it, thank you!Ã,  I just renamed the icon "user" without the ".ico" and it worked perfectly.Ã,  Thank you!

Thanks everyone who gave me suggestions!
