Installation Trouble with 3.0.1

Hi,

This is my first post, and I do it reluctantly.

I recently downloaded version 2.71.631.0  ( It was floating around on the net)

It loads and works flawlessly.  After playing with it for a bit I thought that I would find the most recent version.  After downloading 3.0.1 I extracted all the files and tried loading the AGS Editor, but to my disappointment I receive the following message- "AGS Editor for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.  If you were working on something, the information may be lost."

I am confident that my computer can handle the program, I can run games like Oblivion and other fairly resource heavy games.

I do not think it is an issue with the .net framework, as when I download it I am only given the option to repair or uninstall.

I am running Windows XP, so the problem isn't there...

I basically am wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem, or if anyone knows of a fix... any suggestion is welcome.

Again, I apologize for this post. I looked through the manual, tutorials, the download page, and looked through the forums, but didn't find this problem addressed anywhere. All literature I can find skips the installation process.

Thanks thanks.

Matti

I think I have exactly the same problem. As far as I remember I've had the same error message when trying to open the editor about a month ago. But I'm pretty sure that it has to do with the .Net Framework. I uninstalled it and since I'm unable to reinstall it.

This problem still exists and I'm currently planning to format my harddisc..

If you can run 2.72 but not 3.0+, it's probably the .NET framework.
I had a problem running AGS 3.0 and it was solved after I uninstalled .NET completely and reinstalled it.

You can't reinstall .NET?

No, I can't. There are some strange .dll-problems while the installation runs. I checked a few forums dealing with that but none of them really helped me getting it to work. I don't know, perhaps it's a virus or something but Anti-Vir and another program didn't find a thing...

Edit: And this problem ocurred all of a sudden, not when I tried to run the 3.0 Editor the first time.

I can't help you there either.
Somehow I get the feeling .NET isn't very well programmed - I had a similar problem where there were some DLL's not installed or maybe removed when I uninstalled some other program.

If you have a way to backup your data I certainly recommend reinstalling windows. I do it twice a year, you can always notice it runs faster.

Ha, good thing I didn't reinstall windows (which would've been a lot of trouble). I finally got it working again.

After going through 10-20 forums dealing with that dll-issues I found ONE useful answer which immediately solved the problem. It was rediculously easy: I just had to rename the windows/assembly folder in whatever I want to. It was a problem with registration keys or something similar, but I'm not familiar with those kind of problems and don't really know what went wrong.

But whatever, .NET Framework installed properly and I can finally go back to work with the editor.  ;D
