???Ã,  I have already downloaded ags_271.zip. I double clicked agsedit.exe as stated when starting a game, but an error pops up stating that the dynamic library link accomole.dll was not found but is required for AGS editor to run. I pressed okay and the standard 'Welcome to AGS!' window pops up. I chose start a new game. But on the next window 'Create New Game', there are no templates!

Is the no template problem related to the accomole.dll thing? How do I fix this?

Gilbert

Firstly, this post is not related to the Linux engine, so I splitted it into a standalone thread.

Secondly, had you unzipped the package before executing agsedit.exe? You shouldn't execute it directly from inside the ZIP file.

Thanks for the info.

I unzipped the file like you said. But now ROOMEDIT.CLB could not be loaded. Should I extract that too?

Edit:

Well, I just tried extracting that too. Together with accomole.dll and acwin.exe.
Because I put the file name for the game and then pressed enter. An error window came up stating that it was not a valid AGS template and that I may need a newer AGS version. so Do I need to extract other files to get the templates that are not shown?

Maybe its time that AGS had an installer for those who prefer it? The download page coudl say "If you have problems with the zip file, use the installer" for those who are confused by XP's compressed folder "functionality"

I consider extracting the zip as sort of a test. If you actually fail doing that, there's no way you'll figure out AGS...
And I despise installers. One of the many great things about AGS is that it keeps system folders and the registry clean.

Installers don't have to put files in the system folders or register themselves in the system registry.  Just most of them do.

There had been many discussions about installers, the problem is, the ZIP distribution MUST still be provided as it rulez over installers in many aspect IMO, having to release two packages each time is not an easy job.

Anyway, installers sucksksksk in general.
