Err... Hello, first of all. I'm new here and I have just one question:Ã, ??? how do I make intros? Cutsences I get, but intros I don't. I keep searching "the helps", but I just get shot from one topic to a totally opposite one. Can someone please help me. By the way, I'm using the newest version of AGS: 2.71 (launched in january) and works just fine. It's made my life completeÃ, ;). Oh, and I musn't forget: I apologyse for any bad spelling and/or grammar in advance. English is my second language, I'm from Romania (East Europe).
:o Oh, and I know this topic was named intros, but I need some help with the sound effects too.Ã, ??? I just can't get how I can make the game (AGS) use them...Ã, ??? (I know, I'm pathetic... :'( ). Can anybody help me?Ã, :'(
Thanks a lot, mr. ashen moderator for the corrections. I'm not perfect and I'm sure I never will be, but that's another story. Anyway, I'll try harder on the sound effects before I ask about them again. And by "intro" I something like in "7 days a"... err (copyright paranoid) made by yahtzee when you first start the game. By "cutscene" I understand characters talking, moving and generally interacting with other characters and/or objects by their own. In both cases, the player sits back and enjoys.
(and you'll notice that I haven't used any smileys this time)
Please don't double post - use the 'Modify' button.

I'm tempted to lock this for being answered in the BFAQ (http://americangirlscouts.org/agswiki/index.php/Graphics%2C_Characters%2C_Text_%26_Rooms#Adding_an_intro.2Fcutscene_to_your_game), but just for clarification - What do you mean by an Intro, as opposed to a Cutscene?
Also, what exactly is your problem with sound effects? What have you tried, what is/isn't happening, etc. If you haven't already (and you should have) read through the manual (the multimedia functions (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/manual/Multimedia%20functions.htm) in particular), search the forums, and try again.
(And, don't worry about your, English, it's fine - in fact the only spelling mistake I can see is 'apologyse', which should have an 'i', not a 'y'. Well, there's a few to many smilies for my taste, but that might just be me....)
I think you want to check the "Hide Player Character" for your room or something and then do the rest of the introduction sequence using other objects and characters. I mean the only thing I can think of that you mean is you want an intro where your hero isn't viewable and something else is happening like a plane crashing into a dense jungle or something.
For that just check the Hide Player Character and do it the same way you would do any cutscene. I mean your description wasn't amazing...An intro is a custscene really it's just at the beginning of the game.
As for sounds? Can you elaborate a bit?
When I said 'Don't double post', I meant right after each other - It's OK to make a new post in response to someone!
Anyway, although it might look slightly different to what you have in mind as a 'Cutscene' an intro sequence like 7 Days a Skeptic (no need to be copyright paranoid about using the name!) is technically no different, as far as AGS is concerned. Both are made by manipulating characters and objects, and by using various commands (Character.Say (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/manual/Character.Say.htm), the Text Display commands (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/manual/Text%20display%20_%20Speech%20functions.htm), Overlay.CreateTextual (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/manual/Overlay.CreateTextual.htm), GUI Labels (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/manual/GUI%20Label%20functions%20and%20properties.htm), etc) to display text as - and where - needed. If you've got the hang of Cutscenes, you can make an Intro. If you have any questions about what commands to use to achieve a specific effect - and you can't find an answer in the Manual or BFAQ - then feel free to post them here.

Thank you! However, that was mostly a joke. If your post was ALL smilies, it'd be a problem, but there's nothing wrong with using them in moderation.
Ok, guys. First of all Ashen, I got the joke and I replied with another joke, and don't worry about copyright paranoia, you've cured me so I thank you.
Yeah, and Bunny Milk, I got the hang of cutscenes, like if I want to make the title fade in, I make a new view and a loop and assign it to a character that looks stuningly like the title. I get it.
And as for sounds... well, I'm getting the hang of those, but do you know any sites where I can get you know, foot step noises and stuff like that?

I'm no expert, but I think it would be better to make a title an
object rather than a
character. You probably wouldn't need it to talk or change rooms, so that youd be easier.
Also, there are many royalty free sound effects available the web, particularly for non-commercial use.
Or put it on a gui and change the GUI transparency value, or use an overlay, or rawdraw sprites onto the background, etc...
Many ways to do it. Do whatever you find easiest...
