How flexible is the audio system?

Hi, I'm trying out AGS (it may be the first time I'm trying it out properly since it was called Adventure Creator), and I've picked up the basics by reading the documentation and some trial and error, but I'm wondering if I'm missing something as I'm trying to find what's possible to do with music in AGS.

To pick a concrete example that many here would be familiar with: Would it be possible to make something like the "A Pirate I Was Meant To Be" sequence from CMI?

What specifically is required for this sequence? They had a background music and character voices. After player chooses a dialog line the background music restarts and corresponding singing clip is played. That alone is trivial.
Probably the biggest issue is syncing these clips together. In the worst case as a workaround one might premix voice segment with music, play that, and as it runs out - play a looping music alone until next dialog line is selected.

Syncing that is not trivial. The song never stops, and the singing comes in on cue (waits until the loop is about to start over, and seamlessly cuts to the new one). What you describe as worst case - mixing vocals and backing track together - is almost certainly the way to go.

The tricky thing is having the music flow uninterrupted.

But I remember that in the CMI the music is restarted each time you run a new line.

Looks like there's a small, maybe random, piece playing in between to make the transition look better.

EDIT: Or maybe that too is premixed and they're basically playing premixed tracks corresponding to each dialog line.

The first time I played The Curse of Monkey Island, it was on a compilation Warez CD. A Blobby I think. As such, all of the music and voices were removed to save on space. The sound effects were still in though.
Strangely enough though, the music and voices still played for this part of the game. It was the only time I actually got to hear Guybrush's voice until many years later. To this day, I wonder why the music and voices weren't removed from this part. Were they stored elsewhere?
That being said, the music and voices were corrupted at the last dialog screen, giving nothing but ear-piercing static.
