Just started a game, having problems

Did you go to the inventory menu and click on "change image" and select your new image for the item? Any new item and object will automatically get the blue cup image if no image is selected.

(I dont know how to do the quote thing, but thats what you just said electricmonk)...anyways I have one OBJECT in the first room which is a lighter. Now that is the first object and when I go to Iventory Items tab I have like 1-5 all lighter images, and none of them are working in the game. I have named them all 'Lighter' and gave them all the bigger image of the lighter I created, but none of them are working. help!!

Next to the topic of the posting ("Re:Just started a game, having problems") there is the option "reply with quote".
Otherwise, click on the "help" link way up there under the AGS logo on this page and check the "posting" link for tags you can use for quoting, bold letters, italics, urls and so on.

Hm... tell you what. Put your game files from your folder (not the "Compiled" folder) into a ZIP or RAR file, then go to http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/upload/upload.html, upload it, and send me the link so I can download the thing and have a quick look at it. Because right now I don't seem to understand why that happened or even why. Did you create those five inventory objects on purpose? If so, why?

I created them all on purpose yes. I did this because each time it was not working so I just kept creating new ones to try and get it to work. I went over the 'Key' inventory item by the way, all whats left is the pink poster one.
