Okay, either it's a limitation of the program, or there is an alternate way of doing it so it is precise.

most often I will create a new object, and place it on my background. Lets say it is an open window that will be on top of the closed one on the background. I place it there, but it is either two pixels too much to the left, or two pixels too much to the right. The only solution I know of is to keep going into paint and pasting the object one pixel to the left or right.

Am I missing something here? It's driving me nuts!

DoorKnobHandle

Wait, you know that you can move the objects around by clicking on them and dragging? Just place it properly with that "technique" and you're done!

ManicMatt

Yeah, it's through that method that it is inaccurate!

DoorKnobHandle

Then maybe try to use the Windows desktop magnifying glasses! Don't know if that works but it may be an idea. Or choose a lower resolution like 640x480 to do this and then go back to the original one. The pixel will be way bigger then!

ManicMatt

Nah, thanks but that didn't work either.

Neither of your ideas.

Are you telling me no one else suffers from this problem? I've never noticed anyone else's games having misaligned objects. :(

DoorKnobHandle

Well I usually put my face right in front of the screen when aligning.  :=

Then I try the game out and look if it looks fine, if not, then I remember how many pixels it needs to go in what direction and then I go back to the editor and move it!

ManicMatt

That's really strange!Ã,  :o

It's just not possible for me to drag it on to the exact spot. It just skips a pixel even when moving the cursor as slow as possible! I even tried dragging it with my graphics tablet, but to no avail!

Are you using 2.7?

DoorKnobHandle

Ah, so the problem is not that you can't see it good enough, the problem is that it's skipping pixels.
Now I understand.

Hmm, I guess CJ has to take a look at this as that has never occured to me with any AGS version!

Quote from: CJObjects are placed with 320x240-res co-ordinates, so at 640x480 you can only place them on even pixels.

So if you have problems placing the object exactly, try making the object graphic a pixel bigger.

ManicMatt

Ah I see! Thanks Strazer! Why are they inforced in such a manner, do you know?

Your pixel thing works, but it makes the window unevenly shaped, and it seems that the object shift by one pixel in paint seems to work anyway...

Thanks for trying to help dkh! I'm guessing you use the smaller resolution then?

Yeah, by making it bigger I meant adding a pixel of empty space.

Internally AGS always uses the lower-res coordinates so there are no problems when playing hi-res games at lower resolutions (configurable in the game setup).
