Making a text box displaying current command?

Hey all Im kind of new to AGS, but not to scripting or adventure games. I was wondering if anyone knew how to create a box that displays what your current command is (like in the lucasarts games) i e walk to--place, use inventory item with thing, etc. one or two of the default guis use this but on examining their script i cant tell what is making them work. any help is appreciated.
