Modifying Sound Properties

I have used the following script in my room1.asc;

function hHotspot2_Interact()
{
PlaySound(1);
cEgo.SayAt(40,258,320, "Text which is displayed goes here");
}

So i have recorded my own sound file of me saying what is inside the speech marks so it plays at the same time.

I know that some people can be quite impatient when playing point and click games expecially if they have played that scene before and click to make the text dissapear before you've had time to read it.

Because i have just used the PlaySound(1); command - it continues playing the sound even after the text has dissapeared. How would i go about stopping the sound that is activated using PlaySound(1); so it stops at the same time as the text dissapears on a click.

Of course i will using this for every part of text upon hotspot click in the game, so where it is now in the room script im guessing to save me inputting this for everything in the game it should go in the globalscript, but nothing in the help topics or forum topics covers this specific area.

Thankyou.

You should use speech instead of normal sounds. Searching for speech in the manual should give you the needed info.

timmle, PLEASE read the manual in full at least once, also use the forum search before starting thread after thread.

timmle

Sorry about that, i do search everywhere before i post. It's just what i search for seems to be the wrong thing to use for that specific thing i want to do.

well, despite Khris being a total asshole to newbies most of the times, you should really check the forums. I actually have no trouble answering questions. Most posts Khris makes is about people making no posts, which actually is sort of making newbies go take a long walk of a short gankplank.  So yeah, I really do dislike  the way Khris behaves certain times. Anyway, if you want any help most of the members are willing to give soem/even Khris.

Yeah, I apologize for being such an unhelpful asshole, especially in this thread.
And I didn't even post RTFM, which is the appropriate answer way too often in this board IMO.

Dualnames, if you still feel the need to act on your grudge against me, take it to PMs.

Bump for generally supporting Kris and the hard work he does answering peoples questions, newbie or otherwise.

The general point is that you should go through the tutorial in the manual, search the manual, search the forums THEN post a question. The reason you couldn't find something in the forums is because a quick search in the manual for 'Speech' would have got you the answer. We would just like you to search both thoroughly before starting a thread. Kris is understandably a little annoyed when you have asked several of these easy questions recently.

Khris, you probably have misinterpreted me. there's no grudge between me and you, at least from my part. I just said that sometimes for reasons important to you aparently you post angrily. I recall certain Ashen posts that he was very kind..damn I miss the guy..and you sometimes are not. Yeah people tend to make many threads. And there's a solution to that. But instead of talking to me here/typing with me, you don;t take the one minute required for you to think the solution. There's a choice. You can go and post "Go read the FU#$#A#$ manual" and don't say anything. So if you want me to say that saying "Go read the $%#% manual" is the correct choice don;t bother(I'll be "grudgy"). You're mostly useful, did I ever say you're not useful when you posted a correct answer? Didn't I praise the geniuus(this isn't sarcasm) of your coding when it existed? Didn;t I accept that I made a mistake on exporting/importing variables topic? I just said that sometimes it's better to know when to be helpful or not.

Yeah, i admit i obviously haven't done enough research, but i truly couldn'd find what i was looking for, hence the topic.

I'd say everyone is quite right about my excessive frivalent topic posting which i will be more careful of in the future, i'll make sure i've checked everything first.

Also i would like to thank Khris for all the help over the last few days he has given me, besides the fact i have been creating topics for stupid things.

Khris

You're welcome, and I mean it.

Dualnames: I get what you're saying, but I don't post "RTFM" to put down people or because I'm bored, I do it because the solution for their problem is right in the manual. And when I do it, I usually link to the part they are looking for.
So while the tone might be inappropriate in some people's eyes, it's still constructive.

Time and again, people open threads here which clearly show they didn't bother to read the rules sticky, or the manual, or the BFAQ. Take them by the hand and play nice, and this forum is gonna turn into a mess. The search function will become useless if the results consist of page after page of retelling what's already in the friggin' manual.

Dualnames

Okay come to think of it, you do have a point. Maybe you have tested my ideas, but they created the same result or worse of what you're doing. Okay.
