Hello everyone,

I´m currently experimenting and working on my first AGS game. But as I try to navigate the site and the wiki I find that parts of it are regularly down. Which is not always helpful to find the information I´m looking for.

One particular thing is fonts. The site mentions a selection of them being available for download: https://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/create/sci/

But when I press the link supplied on this page I get a 404 error.

Can anyone help me get the fonts on this page. It is Font 001 I'm particularly interested in.

Thanks in advance!

Ahoy,

There are many places to download free fonts online, such as https://fonts.google.com/

May the winds of productivity & creativity fill your sails!

I use Dafont. Make sure to click "more option" and then "100% free/Public domain".

Once you installed the fonts, you can add them by clicking on "Fonts" in AGS editor.

Thanks´s. I must be a real noob because I cannot get it to work. The fonts from dafonts come in different formats but AGS only let´s me import pretty specific ones. And the ones I want are not in it...

Installing a font doesn´t really seem to do anything in AGS.

The ones that are in ttf format can be imported but they are all crooked or the letters are only partly shown.

To make it worse I don´t know how to revert back to the default font.

Can you give an example of a font that didn't work?
You can also use this: https://khris.ddns.net/agsfont/

Importing a font on its own won't do anything (unless you replaced an existing font). You also need to set the font to be used by GUIs or Display / Speech commands.

I don't seem to have a copy of the SCI files available. I don't think they're much used in recent years. But let's ping @AGA about the broken link; maybe he has them somewhere.

Rik_Vargard

I don't have the problem you explained with fonts from Dafont. I do use TTF fonts.
If you didn't you might have a try at looking at the properties of the imported font in the right down part.
Maybe the "Font Size" and/ or "SizeMultiplier" can do something about that?

More information is required to diagnose the problem:
- What font
- What are font's properties
- Where the font is applied to (speech, gui, etc)

Thanks for all the suggestions! I was on a camping trip the past days and was not able to respond sooner.

I think it is important to mention that I'm using the 320x200 sierra template. So I believe that means I'm limited to fonts that are maximum 10 to 15 pixels in height? This means that most regular fonts will not work or be unreadable. It is why I would really like to have those SCI fonts mentioned on the AGS website.

And let me reverse that question. Can you provide me the link to a font that should work in a 320x200 sierra template? And maybe also some help on how to filter or find these fonts (other than trying over and over) if possible. It would be a great help.

Edit: I'm mostly concerned about the GUI fonts atm.

To find suitable low-resolution fonts you can search for "pixel fonts."

Various Sierra and LucasArts fonts are also available here: https://helmet.kafuka.org/sci/fonts/ (in .fon format, which AGS doesn't read—unless it's actually the same as the SCI .001 (etc.) format—but it's easy to find converters to more common formats).

You can also just make your own fonts.
It might seem hard, but it's actually quite easy. Just long winded.
There should be a few font editors here on the AGS forums. I remember using one called Radiant FontEdit, but I think the more commonly used one now is the WFN Font Editor.

I found FONT.001 in an old SCI template.

https://khris.ddns.net/sierra.wfn

To use it in your game:

1. create a new font (right-click the Fonts node and click on "New Font".
2. save and close the editor
3. open the game's folder and look for the agsfntX.wfn files.
4. replace the last font (agsfnt3.wfn for me) with the properly renamed downloaded font file

2. double-click the font to open it, then click on the "Import over this font" button and pick the downloaded file
3. open the game and enjoy the new font :)

edit:
Thanks CW :-D

Why do you have to replace this manually instead of using "import over this font" button?

In fact, AGS does open the *.FONT files too, it just does not let select them in the "open file dialog". That was an old oversight that has not been fixed for a long time.
It's now fixed in AGS v3.6.2.
In earlier versions this may be solved manually:

1. Click "Import over this font" button.
2. Navigate to the folder where the *.FONT files are located on disk.
3. Manually type "*.*" in the filename field and press Enter.
4. The dialog will now override extensions filter and display all files.
5. Double click any *.FONT file.

I was able to import a random file from the above link.

I found a pack of unnamed "SCI" fonts on my computer, although I cannot remember where I got them from.
Uploaded them to a Dropbox, if you like to try:

The import dialog didn't use to support WFN files either, so you had to use this workaround. I think it's been fixed for a while now, but old habits...
