Post by: darkx5 on Thu 07/10/2004 15:44:21
I was just wondering how I would go about importing my own characters and objects in to the game.

Basically the only other info I need is how to add beginning and ending movies and credits

This is probably what you are looking for:

8. How on Earth do I create my own characters!?

First, you must save each frame in the animation in any painting program as a .BMP or .PCX file. Then, import them one-by-one into the Sprite Editor in AGS. In the Views section of AGS, create a new view (or use the existing one to replace the main character's walking animation) and choose the images for each direction there. Next, in the Characters pane, create a character (or use the first one, if you're replacing low-res Roger as your main character) and select the corresponding views. If you want talking views (animations run when the player is talking), then read the question below.

Found under Graphics/Characters.

I'd say make manus with GUI's like I have done, but the easiest way would probably be to make rooms into the menus, where any click on a certain hotspot takes the player to another room which represents a submenu or something. Remembering to tick the "Hide player character" in every one of the menu rooms so the player won't be walking around the menus.

I'm sort of an expert on making menus, but unfortunately I am not that good to briefly instruct on how to make them. It's time consuming, to get everthing planned, layed out and functional. With rooms it's easier, all you need to do is to draw the menus at the size of the room, import them into AGS, draw the hotspots in, and define the interactions for the hotspots.

You'll get a much wider view of AGS' capeabilities when you learn the scripting. It may be hard though, took me ages to figure it out, but nowdays I'm a rather experienced scripter... that proofs it's not impossible.

i have downloaded all the possable tutorials and manuals and i am in thre prosses of trying to memorize them, i even copied the rules if the forum and read them.. i found out thet 80% ot the manuals don't ecen cover 50% of how to do this and how to do that...
wich makes it slightly difficult but i'm getting a hang of things... what i need is a visual quick start guide LOL

i tryied the SGI edidto and gave up on that and toaly lost it with the Sludge thingy.. i love the user friendlyness of the AGS Editor and oud love do donate something.... Kudos to everyone for there help.. but i do have one suggestion and that is try to referange a page of the guide to ppl like me so we'll know where ot look.. thanks
