Title: New Room background import problem
Post by: on Thu 15/03/2007 17:21:29
I am attempting to work my way through the tutorial but am stymied by the background import. I am working with version 2.72. When I import a graphic which I resized in photoshop and saved as a bitmap, I get the following error message

The background is a different size to the old one. If you import it all your regions, hotspots and walkable areas will be cleared.

If I say yes then the graphic comes in as a big grey box, I cannot see the picture at all. I have checked the help and FAQ under background imports but can't figure out what I am doing wrong. If anyone can be of assistance it would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Can you give us a few more details (size and colour depth of room BMP, resolution and colour depth of game)?

Don't use BMPs, PNGs are color-true, too and smaller in filesize.
That'll probably also solve your problem.

There should not be any difference in using PNGs (otherwise there may be a bug in AGS).

If the image came up all gray, check the colour depth of your game and the image, importing an 8-bit image into a 16/32 bit game might work, but if you import a 24/32-bit image into a 8-bit game it probably won't work. (If the case is, you're using 24/32-bit image in your game, just change the game's colour depth to 16/32-bit and try again.)
