Title: Newbie question about MSDOS version
Post by: on Sun 09/11/2003 19:02:36
Hello,

I downloaded the AGS zip file from the main webpage and it includes the file acdos.exe I am trying to run Kings Quest VGA remake under msdos 6.22 but it keeps asking, when I run acdos.exe for the agsedit.exe.

In the zip file it only have the windows version. Is there a MSDOS 6.22 version? Where can I download it form?

Cheers,

Rob

If it's the official release, acdos.exe should be there. If it's a beta release posted on the Tech. forum, onl;y acwin.exe is included.

To run a window$ compiled game under MSDOS, you can read more about it here:

Note that KQVGA probably requires an older version of acdos.exe to play. :p

how are running it? The only case I know it would ask for it, is when you try to run the exe itself in a folder which does not contain any AGS games... did you re-name the game exe to ac2game.ags, place it in the same folder as the acdos.exe, and run the exe? It's just what I know....

Hello,

I have tried running "acdos kqvga.exe" but it seems to hang my system.

I have loaded the cwsdmpi under MSDOS 6.22? Anyone got an older copy of the acdos.exe to try? Am I doing anything wrong?

Cheers,

Rob

well try renameing the game exe file to ac2game.ags, then placeing the acdos.exe in the same folder, and running the acdos.exe, without parameters... what happens?

Strange the same seems to hang the system. Do I have to configure anything before hand? Like sound card etc. I have the sound card drivers loaded and more than 590k base memory and 20mb of RAM.

I noticed with the Windows version you can selecte screen res sound etc.. How does the Dos version work?

Thanks,

Rob

acdos --setup

Bear in mind is that unfortunately the setup programme of the DOS version hasn't been updated for a long time, so there're some options missing there.

What windows you are using? If XP, then you should try the compability mode for 98 or something...

No I am running MSDOS 6.22. I have build a dos box to play all the old games.

I have narrowed it down to a problem with acdos.exe Apart from the cwdmpi do I need to load anything else?

When ever I run acdos.exe it jsut hangs my system. Could someone please email me an older version?

What could be causing it to hang a DOS system? ??????

Hey, you got a windows on your system? Or a graphical OS anyways? You sure you aren't running low on virtual memory or something?

Ditch Windows, DOS worked best anyway.

Hmmm did you run cwsdpmi on command line yourself? You don't need to, just throw it in one of your paths (most of the time just the DOS directory) and it should work. Maybe there're some problems with configurations of the CWSDPMI extender, but that's a quite technical thing to do...
