Brand New User Can't Create Game Error: Unable to Extract Files

So I've just installed AGS today, hoping to test it out for an upcoming project, but I seem to have fallen down at the first hurdle.

I did search this error and found one other user with the same problem in the forum, but they didn't seem to get a final answer, so I thought I'd ask the question again.

Basically when I try to create a new game, regardless of what template option I select I get the following message:

QuoteThere was an error creating you game. The error was: Unable to extract template files.
Failed to open file 'template.txt' for writing.
Error details: AGS.Types/AGSEditorException: Unable to extract template files.
Failed to open file 'template.txt' for writing. at AGC.NativeMethods.ExtractTemplateFiles(StringtemplateFileName) at AGS.Editor.Tasks.CreateNewGameFromTemplate(String templateFileName, String new GameDirectory) at AGS.Editor.GUIController.CreateNewGame(StringnewGamePath, StringnewFileName, String newGameName, GameTemplate create FromTemplate)

I've tried downloading AGS both as the exe and as the zip file. As advised by the previous thread on this, I've also tried storing it in a number of locations on my machine, and I've even tried getting windows security to let it through the firewall to see if that would help. Unfortunately nothing's worked as yet, so I'm wondering if anyone might have any further suggestions. I am running on Windows 11 if that helps at all, but I've seen other users mention that they still use AGS with 11.

What are you using as the location where the game should be created?

Hey, I've tried both in programme files and in my user files. No luck either way.

"Program Files" should not be used for game projects, it's for installed programs only; but user documents should be fine.

I recall there were problems with some antiviruses giving false positive result on AGS, maybe it's the case. Do you have any on your system, like Windows Defender, Avast, and so on? If yes try adding AGS editor into their ignore list, or disabling them temporarily, and see if that will solve this problem.

As mentioned above I had already tried getting it through windows defender, but nothing changed. You did jog my memory that I had another programme security prog installed though. Pushed it through that and it seeeeems to be running.

Thanks for the extra boot.
