Hello. I'm having trouble with backgrounds and I've read the manual/tutorials all over the net, there seems to be a lot of ambiguity surrounding the background issue and I don't understand how the technicalities work of types of image etc so I was wondering if someone could explain to me, how I can produce a background with color in photoshop and get it into AGS. So far I've managed to import a color picture and the AGS erase it all except for a few grey pixels, I've managed to import a line drawing from paint but that's about all. Unless there's a tutorial/thread I've missed, in which case could you point me to it?

Check your color depth setting. If you have it set to 256 color (8-bit; palette mode) then your game will be restricted to the colors defined in your palette (which sounds like might be what's happening).

To check/change this setting, click on the Palette pane. This pane will tell you the current setting, and if you click on "Change game colour depth" you can set it to a higher color depth.

Also, it sounds like you know how to import backgrounds (Room Editor pane -> Room menu -> Import background...), but you might also try the "Import background (exact pal).." option.
