Title: Odd black flashing background
Post by: blorglbrr on Wed 15/10/2008 15:49:55
Hi, I'm having a problem early on in trying to learn AGS, and I just can't work it out.

The first time I tried to run the game, (I'm following the tutorial and it's pretty much just a room with a background so far) it comes up with this:

flashing

It's meant to be this background by Custard http://www.btinternet.com/~ctswin/web/proper/7.PNG (http://www.btinternet.com/~ctswin/web/proper/7.PNG)

Could anyone help me out please? Sorry if this is a stupid question - I have tried to find the solution on my own but I'm stumped.

First of all, welcome!

Importing the image works fine on my computer.

- What version of AGS are you using?
- (if you're using AGS 3.0, when you open the room in the Editor, in "Backgrounds to display" (it's in the topleft of the screen) how many items are there in the dropdown menu? (there should only be two, 'Main background' and '< import  new background >'

Ahh, thank you very much!

I'm using 3.0 and I had a 'Background 1' as well as a 'Main Background'.

All better now. :)

Even if you've got multiple backgrounds it shouldn't be mutilating them like that. Unless the second background "Background 1" was like that already.

I'd also ask what bit-depth your game is running at.

Well, you've probably either imported or you're still using 8bit depth. So change the depth at the general settings section, and re-import the background.
