when I make a room and save it, is it meant to display the room name in the list of rooms, my problem is that when I save my room it doesn't appear in the list, has anyone else had this problem or know how to solve it?

P.S. This is my first time using AGS and I was following the tutorial up to creating your first room when I had the problem, I dont have much experience with AGS except playing a few games made with it

Does the list display anything at all? Did you save the room into the game directory, with the name format room#.crm where # is the room number? (normaly 1 for the first room created)
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

the list displays nothing and I saved the room as room001.crm that might be the problem, I'll check

im allso having some slightly odd occurances with the latest AGS.(2.6 sp1)

sometimes when i open for example the rooms /repeatedly execute/ run script/ editing window to make an alteration...it shows me entrys from the other room functions...such as when player enters room..etc....and once or twice ive had an error been prompted to edit my script..(which opens the main script window) ive edited the repeatedly execute section as prompted  (in this case) and when i go back to the actual rooms repeatedly execute script (the run script editing window ) theres been no code in there at all..forcing me to load a back up..not seen this in the older versions of AGS..

mind yu i installed the latest 2.6 version by simply extracting the zip into the normal AGS directory letting it overwrite the lder files...any thoughts?

Yep it's a known problem, if there're some misplaced {}'s OR if the function's name appears in the script before teh actual declarition of it (like in a comment, etc.), clicking teh "edit script" buttons would most likely to jump to incorrect positions. It's supposed to be fixed in the newest beta (V2.61beta1).

Actually you can just overwrite old AGS files by extracting new files over them, but this is not recommended in case the files weren't completely overwritten, (unlikely) incompatibilities with old game files, etc.

When upgrading AGS, the best way is to extract the new files to a new folder, and copy your working game's folder intoto this new folder, then work on the new files there. That way you still got a backup in case you did something wrong or if there're some bugs in the new version that ruins your game. When you had them working for a while and are comfortable that there shouldn't be any problem using the new version, you can delete teh old files if you like.

many thanks that clears that up, it seems to be better if i avoid opening the main script window if i get prompted if i want to edit my script..(and stick to editing via the run script etc)

one thought tho...the latest beta version says it's for windows XP// does this mean it's not compatible with older OS's like windows ME for instance?

No, CJ just likes to think of names for each of the releases, sometimes they're related to the changes/fixes/additions, sometimes just some non-sensible jokes (sorry CJ hehe). ;)
