Does the AGS engain support all the basic C++ functions?

No, AGS has its own scripting language.  When you download AGS, you can open the manual (ags-help.chm) and it contains a list of all available functions.  You should read through the tutorial, and then read the information on upgrading to 2.7, and then you should have a basic idea of how to get started using AGS.
