For some reason when i pick up an object and look into my inventory, it is messed up. All what happens is a gray line goes through the middle of the screen and I cannot click out of it, I have to exit the game, needless to say I cannot even see the item in my inventory. Whats going on?

Also how do I connect rooms, so my character will walk from room1 to room2?

Did you create your own inventory GUI?
Did you create an inventory item with an image that has the proper size?
Did you check that the inventory GUI has the proper x and y size? (Sounds a bit like it might have an x size of 320 and a y size of 1)

Why not post a screenshot and let us see what the error looks like?

Check the tutorial again. ;)

Greg

Hey electricmonk, whats up.

I actually checked out the tutorial but I couldn't find anything on connecting rooms. You know which part it is, or could you just tell me?

Tutorial, chapter 3: Hotspots and Interactions

Edges revisited
Ok, so we've covered the basics of creating a room. However, there's one thing that we did way back in the tutorial that we need to clear up - yes, the edges.

Go to the "Settings" mode under the Room Editor. If you press the Interactions button here, the Interaction Editor will appear, but this time with a different set of events.

<image here>
The "Interactions" button

Among the events listed, you'll see "Walk off left edge", "Walk off right edge", and so on. These use the edges we defined back in part 2. A common command to use in response to these events is the "Player - Go to a different room" command.

Alternatively, you can also define a region in your room and call the "Go to a different room" command for the "Player walks onto region" event.

Seriously, if you've gone through the tutorial once, go through it again.
When you're starting out, there is such a lot of information in there, and not everything will stick in your brain, but after some time of trying out AGS (which it seems like you've done by now) go and have another read-through. Many things will seem much clearer.

It might especially be a good idea to have a look through all the options you can make AGS perform in the interaction menu. I predict it will solve many questions that you never knew you had and save you a lot of asking later.
I know it did for me, anyway. ;D

Greg

Thats a good idea, just check back here once in a while, I probably will still have another question or two today :)

Greg

Ah yes, I do in fact have a question. I have made 2 regions so far,a  region for both of my rooms. In the first region I have the doorframe as the exit to room 2, u go through it and u end up in room 2, however your character spawns at the bottom of the room, not at the doorway. No problem, I just went to Roger and changed the x and y coordinates for room 2 to the doorway, however now when you go back to room 1, you spawn at those coordinates, not the original ones..how can I make it so every room has its own individual x and y coordinates for the character?

ElectricMonk

*slaps Greg around for a bit*

What did I tell you? What did I tell you?

Look there and figure it out.

Greg

Well im looking, and it seems to me the INTERACTION menu has to do with interactions such as looking, seeing, taking...which I am fine with. I cant seem to figure out how the interaction menu will help my character spawn at coordinates I put down. If you tell me where to look for certain issues, it may make my life easier.

ElectricMonk

No, the menu that says "Interactions" when you select a hotspot, a region or a room object, and the same thing that pops up when you click on the "i" icon in Room Editor -> Settings.

Greg

Yes I went to that and selected walks off the bottom (where the door to room 2 is), i also selected the option where it says when u walk off bottom it brings u to room 2 and at these coordinates. However what happens is once u walk off the bottom of the screen, it just brings you some random coordinate in the first room and not the second, plus u can walk off the screen anywhere in the bottom region of the room, which is messed up. How do I have it so you walk off the bottom of just the door region and actually end up at the specified x and y coordinates of room 2?

That IS weird. Are you sure you entered the right number for the room?

Behind "New room number", click on "Change" and enter the new room number in the "Value" field, not in the "Variable" field.

As I told you before,

Alternatively, you can also define a region in your room and call the "Go to a different room" command for the "Player walks onto region" event.
Define a region (it must overlap with your walkable area) where your door is in room one, then set it to execute the "Player - go to a different room (at specific co-ordinates)" command.

Greg

Cool, do you know of any 2d character sprite sites, or do you have any character sprites I could use, because i have seen a few of those sites over the forums and stuff but i lost them, can you tell me of a few?

ElectricMonk

No. You're old enough to do your own forum search.

Greg

Ok well, I cant find it anywhere, say I would make my own. I always see like a pink palette with 4 or 5 rows of diffrent movements, how would i actually go about drawing the diffrent frames for each of my characters. keep in mind i only use paint, plus I wanna make sure all the frames are of relative size to the rooms.
