Title: Putting multiple rooms in one room
Post by: dbuske on Wed 13/07/2011 14:19:41
I read in the none on-line help that one can put more than one room under each room.
Does that mean you can have a town of rooms in one room under the editor?
Such as in Davy Jones games?
How does one do that?

I don't think I've ever heard of such a feature. Which passage in the help file were you reading?

Isn't this the exact same question but posted 9 hours before your question? It was even right at the top of the list, hard to miss.

Not the same question at all.  Did you even read this thread, or just worry about rules.
Grow up.

That was uncalled for. We are trying to understand your question, as you did not provide us with many details to go on. You didn't answer my question either; if you can show us the help file entry that you mentioned, or link to an example or a screenshot instead of just mentioning a game in passing, we would know what you mean and might be able to help you.

It's pretty obvious that Ryan did read the thread, he probably just misunderstood you.
And since we're talking about properly reading the thread, could you answer hedgefield's question so we can read the manual passage you were referring to? Also, you could have mentioned that info in the original post...

I read this question the other day and was confused about exactly what you're asking too. You mention Davy Jones games, so I'm guessing you mean like in Reality and the Norm stuff. Most all those games are just structured normally, as far as I know, with each area, inside and out, being just a room. You could name the rooms in the same building stuff like "Davyhouse bedroom" and "Davyhouse lounge" and such to help keep things structured if you wanted to.

The other thought I had was that you might mean the ROTN game "Everything that Begins With an M" which had a single vertically scrolling BG with lots of smaller rooms in it - that was a single room file with the area divided up using insane amounts of Areas and crazy scripting.

If you explain what you're trying to do more, I'm sure we can be more help!

My closest guess as to what he was reading would be animating backgrounds, of course if that is indeed the entry I'd find it hilarious that it could be so horribly misinterpreted.

Either way it's rather amusing that dbuske can demand answers of us, and when clarification is asked for can turn around and insult us for being ignorant rule-mongers. :=

Hey Ryan, you should really grow up! Don't act like a noob, instead you should be able to guess what dbuske is looking for!!1

Haha, I dunno. Unless it's the few beers I've been drinking right now, I still read it as though dbuske is asking the same question as the thread I pointed him to. Oh well, I guess I'll grow up some day. :(

Matti, you're wrong. Guessing is what got him all n00b'd up in the first place. He should be a grown man and use his telepathy to know what dbuske is looking for. Always. Before dbuske even comes to a decision himself. Like a grown man. Instead of a pathetic non-telepathic n00bchild.

Hehe, I think that's why Ryan is drinking beer now ... to get his telepathic abilities going... Well at least it works for me that way.   :=

I'm starting to get really curious about that manual section.

dbuske: Are you talking about "categorizing" the rooms? In the same way, you can categorize your views under folders, in the AGS editor?

Or are you talking about default interlinking of rooms? And all that within a room? As much as I consider this impossible, this is the beginner's topic, so understanding a question is one thing, and mocking a person another.

I'm personally baffled by this whole "I can't understand you, YOU must be stupid, so instead of asking you to rephrase, I'll mock you, cause that's helpful and great and amazing, and makes everything else make sense. That's my thing after all. And I'm good at it".

Dual, I think you missed the post where Ryan was told to "grow up" and stop being a rule-monger simply because he asked a clarifying question, as opposed to doing the apparently adult thing and just knowing what dbuske was looking for in the first place.
