Title: Questions about how to full screen, background size, etc.
Post by: Selkie on Fri 01/03/2013 03:14:48
I am starting my first game in AGS. I would like it to be default full-screen for players. How do I get it to be full screen? Right now I have it set to the highest resolution (1024x768) and the window is just that big.

2nd, when I do get it full screen, should I just use backgrounds that are 1024x768, and the game will stretch it? Thanks.

Any other tips would be appreciated.

You can't use backgrounds of any size other than the game resolution so yes it will stretch it, to edit how the game will be played just compile an .exe and then edit the config options, it will become default whenever you test the game.

Are you saying it will automatically become full screen when I run the .exe?

Yes, unless you changed it in the game's setup.

Well, although not directly related to the question, but that is not true. You can use backgrounds larger than game resolution, to create scrolling rooms.

Also, you do not choose the highest available resolution just to get a bigger window.
AGS supports various filters; choosing the x4 filter in winsetup allows you to run a 320x200 game @ 1280x800, which can easily be displayed fullscreen by current monitors.

The choice of resolution comes down to your graphical style and abilities.

Basically, do you want this (320x200, x3):

or this (1024x768, x1):
